What!? Term Four already?
Year Two has dived right into Term Four (literally!). We have been enjoying working on and practising our reading expression and comprehension skills during our reading group rotations. In spelling we are currently busy learning how to correctly break our words into syllables so that we are following the ‘syllable rules’.
In Maths we have looked at calendars and learnt how to use our knowledge to the days, months and seasons to answer questions. We are now learning what a fraction is and how to model and write fractions.
For History this term we have begun to step back in time to investigate how technology, toys and transportation has changed.
During recess and lunch breaks we have enjoyed playing with the new dress ups and acting out different roles and characters.
Term 3 News…
Our writing focus this term has been poetry. We have been busy learning how to structure an acrostic poem and cinquain poem using our knowledge of verbs, adjectives and interesting word choices.
In Religion we learned all about Jesus’ mother, Mary. We will now begin learning about the Holy Spirit and how it helped strengthen Jesus’ family and friends, and also how it strengthens people through the Sacrament of Confirmation.
In History last term we started learning about the first inhabitants of our land, so in week one it was great to have Mr Greg Nannup come and share with us his knowledge about the local Wadjuk People.
In Mathematics we have been busy learning about multiplication and have practised drawing groups and arrays to match an algorithm. We are now learning to share collections into equal groups to represent division.
In STEM we learned about the first moon landing that occurred 50 years ago! Ms Allen taught us how to use the green screen technology to create a video recording showing us walking on the moon just like Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. It was a very fun activity!
Term 2 News…
The term began with a celebration of the wonderful women in our lives who love and care for us. We enjoyed welcoming our mums, nannas and grandmas into the classroom for a pampering session in honour of Mother’s Day.
Our new Religion topic this term has been looking at the wonderful things God created for us. We have discussed places where we see beauty in God’s creation and examined ways we could all help to protect what God gave us.
In Maths we have been learning about subtraction. We have practised our counting back strategy using number lines and used MAB to show how to solve a subtraction sum with borrowing and regrouping.
As part of STEM, our inquiry topic in class this term has been frogs. We have learnt about the life cycle of a frog and have been busy writing our first information report about the interesting amphibians.
In Art, Mrs Raj has introduced us to the artwork of Vincent Van Gogh. We looked at his famous sunflowers painting and recreated our own version using natural materials.
Previously in Year 2:
Wow! We are only four weeks into term and we have been busy learning so much already. We have settled into the new year and have been trying hard to learn our class routines.
In English we have been learning how to write a super, detailed sentence with interesting verbs and have enjoyed reading along to some of our Jill Eggleton big books.
Our maths focus has been all about reading, writing and making numbers as we learn about place value. We are also learning our friends of 10 and doubles facts.
For our brain and fitness breaks we have been grooving along to Just Dance.
In Religion, we have been discussing ‘Making Jesus Real’ and have been taking on a personal ‘Gospel Challenge’ each time we read a bible story.
