Sacrament of Reconciliation

Sacrament of Reconciliation

A number of our students received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time this week. This is an important Sacrament in the faith life of our students and focuses on the ability to make good moral choices and building strong relationships with others. This Sacrament also reminds us that we all make mistakes and the importance of restoring relationships when we make a wrong choices.

Reconciliation Retreat

Reconciliation Retreat

On Thursday 25 May, our Year Three class along with the afterschool children went to the Schoenstatt Shrine in Mount Richon for our Reconciliation Retreat. The Retreat is an important part of our preparation for receiving our First Reconciliation. We met Sister Lisette and spent the day completing many activities to help us prepare for our special day. We had an awesome time creating an environment for our ‘Lost Sheep’ so that they could be welcomed back to God’s family. Mr Maher celebrated this day with us.

Place Value

Place Value

Maths in Year Three involves a lot of hands-on manipulation of materials to help us understand the concepts being learnt. An important part of our learning involves us understanding place value and the importance this plays in all number activities. As part of our learning, we were asked to create a four-digit number on an abacus. We then were required to use this number to demonstrate our understanding of numbers into the thousands.

We are proud of our children and all that they achieve and share with them a great pride in our school.

Symmetry

In geometry we learnt about symmetry. A shape or object has symmetry if it can be divided into two identical pieces along a line of symmetry. There are many examples of symmetry in our environment. After identifying symmetry around us, we created a symmetrical monster using a squiggle pattern. We had to make sure each side of our monster was identical, both in shape and colour. We created some very crazy creatures!

Shrove Tuesday

The Tuesday before Ash Wednesday is known as Shrove, or Pancake, Tuesday. On this day people prepare for the start of Lent by using up all the good things in their cupboards. They do this so they are ready to fast like Jesus did for forty days. During class we were able to decorate a pancake with hundreds-and-thousands and eat it! This was to help us prepare for Lent and Easter, when Jesus died on the cross and rose again.

Welcome to Year 3

The Year 3 class have warmed the hearts of many with their sheer determination to learn and genuine desire to look after one another. Students have already displayed their commitment to making Jesus real every day in the little things that they do as they go out of their way to be WEST people. It has been great to see the wonderful work that the Year Three students have already produced and we can’t wait to see them continue to grow as the year unfolds. Welcome to Year 3!
